I am trying to find pictures of the flooring to see if it's worth the wait. We have 3 kids under 6. I do remember having to throw away about 7 planks that were manufacturer rejects and would not fit together properly. de Mello; Bruno S. Dzialoszynski, M.S.S. My main floor has 900 square feet of coretech in acacia. The aim of Soils and Rocks is to publish and disseminate basic and applied research in Geoengineering. I do not know what brand of LVP they use but i was bare-foot durning the whole month. Once we got a name, we checked the state's website for complaints/license problems, etc. The Editor is responsible for the final decision regarding acceptance or rejection of articles. They FINALLY agreed that that was sound reasoning, then told us there was a problem with manufacturing and there actually should have been more patterns than the 4 we had and they had plans to fix it. He assured me that the only thing that was changing was the flexibility, but we've already been through countless rounds of being told that the finish isn't changing on something and then it ends up having the ultra matte finish. But now all the Coretec samples weve tried feel that way. If after a year and a half since this post started and three years since your flooring debacle started and you havent found an LVP that satisfies you, why not go with something else entirely? While 18.2% of the products measured above a wet DCOF value of 0.42, 81.8% of the products measured either below 0.42 in all test directions (72.7%) or below 0.42 when tested on their long axis (9.1%). :( Thank you so much for this info! Are you filing a claim? We never slip on the Cali floor even in socks. Reusers have the permission to share, remix, adapt, and build upon the material in any medium or format as long as attribution is given to the creator. I came across a flooring contractors association. BTW, I didn't get to the end of your very, very long post, but only read the first 1.5 paragraphs. Not sure if anyone has already stated this but in order to have a matte finish you have to break up the surface. @raquelv hi there, we have our stairs and an additional room scheduled to start this Wednesday. @Shannon H I know that feeling! We proudly provide superior flooring design and installation services in Pensacola, Pensacola Beach, Gulf Breeze, Navarre, Perdido Key, Pace, Milton, Lillian, Orange Beach, Mobile, Spanish Fort, Malbis, Molino, and more. I really liked it. Im sure there are some who do actually have the clothes problem (given our testing of recent samples and how widespread the matte finish is now) but dont realize it or arent down on the floors enough for it to be noticeable. If it's "peaking" at the seams that is a different issue and likely caused by improper installation. laminate is smooth and non destructive, engineered hardwood is smooth and non destructive, and yes even tile with the bathroom rated texture is not near as destructive as this lvp that the author of this thread and so many of us are talking about. Good luck to you and thanks again for this info! Not an option? I have dogs, and I also walk around barefoot and no bloodshed. ps the lifeproof brand that my friend boight was not glue down it eas click lock, but again, limited in colors and a "cheaper" brand , so we went with rigid core Coretec in our gamily room - beautiful but shredding our socks. Frequent dry mopping is very helpful and I found quite a few Etsy sellers who make fleece mop heads (for the Swiffer) and I bought enough to get through 2 weeks, every other day. Submissions to the journal are completely free and all published papers are free to use. We are building next Spring and most people around here use LVP, i just dont have good vibe about it. I dont see an increase the amount of holes. The journal was originally published by the Graduate School of Engineering of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. They are scratched all over. Jos Camapum de Carvalho, Gilson de F. N. Gitirana Jr. Nilo Cesar Consoli; Eclesielter Batista Moreira; Lucas Festugato; Gustavo Dias Miguel. Yikes, just reading about the bloodshed. It looks realistic, is a great color, and we haven't had any issues with abrasiveness. @Shannon H Seaboard Oak is the same as our North Shore Oak floors so Im not surprised that you havent had issues with holes! ISSN 1980-9743 | ISSN-e 2675-5475, An International Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering | Latest issue: 45(1) Jan-Mar 2022 | ISSN 1980-9743 | ISSN-e 2675-5475 |, NATIONAL LABORATORY FOR CIVIL ENGINEERING, Portugal, Copyright 2020 Soils and Rocks. I absolutely love it. each plank is actually curving up off the floor, then that would be a product defect. Anyone who slipped or fell in their bathroom after installing the product could successfully go after the manufacturer for knowingly putting them at risk. There is no need to carry the nonslip standards to such an extreme that they are destructive. We have a section of our website dedicated to luxury vinyl flooring, also known as resilient, where you can learn the fundamentals and look at different styles. We dont have small children so maybe not the highest issue. Plus we have no idea how long we will be waiting and we have no idea if the "update" will actually make the product better/easier to install without compromising the durability (we honestly already found it a bit less durable in our dent tests compared to SPC but were willing to accept that small difference to have something that didn't tear up our clothes.) Luxury vinyl performs well where water is a problem (bathrooms, mudrooms, basements) but depending on the products specifications, you may need to avoid direct sunlight. It has ruined many new articles of clothing over last few weeks. All urethanes are not the same, nor are all acrylics or any other coating. We want to add more lvp in other rooms but will wait to hear from others that can give us advice . We have been living on it about 3 weeks and a week in we realized our kids had holes in their pants and in our socks, we couldnt believe our floor may be the culprit. I'm loving the matte finish. I would get a couple of great before and after pictures of your child's clothing before and after playing on the floor, your socks before and after walking on the floor for 2 hours . You are fighting a battle that cannot be won. This last issue is the worst one. The Coretec floors are shredding our clothes (like a fine-grit sandpaper)! @Shannon H We just got more samples of some of the longboards including North Shore Oak to see if the finish has changed since last we checked (about a year ago). regardless of what the wear layer is made of. @Amanda Oh thats a bad sign! We have big open rooms that make it more obvious too. We notcied it looked hazier than the sample we saw in store but just thought it was due to dust or something from boxing it, it never went away after install and cleaning. So we're honestly not even sure what to do about all of that. Our latest vinyl collection, called Floort, is waterproof, and we have a Houzz Ideabook dedicated to this collection. I think my Coretech must be an older version. So we have little faith that if the product is being updated in anyway that the finish isn't going to come back more matte/destructive. I haven't had that problem. The Coretec floors are still installed upstairs because they hadnt been ripped up yet when the installers figured out there was a problem with Cali Bamboo. Been there and done that. So thats also not an issue just specific to the Coretec floors (at that time Cali Bamboo was the only one we tested that didnt have this issue). But the results are a quality floor with perfect interlocking. So I guess what Im looking for here is 1) Were seeking an understanding of why some LVP has the haze problem people complain about and why some LVP has the clothes shredding problem weve had and at least one LVP (Cali) doesnt. The Journal adopts continuous publication of papers with 4 issues per year in printed (ISSN 1980-9743) and electronic (ISSN-e 2675-5475) version. [Read: Resilient Fundamentals] Youll want to look at the wear layer and its installation guidelines. There was one option that didnt do as bad on the fabric test (Laguna sand), but not as good as the old version of our North Shore. ZERO issues with the finish, and nothing has given it the slightest scratch. They can't. I can reject non-essential cookies by clicking Manage Preferences. He said if people were properly trained and used the recommended technique and tools then it was fantastic. We have Armstrong Empower in matte - no holes or issues. So its important people let the companies know so they will hopefully become more aware and stop manufacturing floors like this. So glad to find your post @surrendertoflow. Many of the samples weve seen are VERY extreme (totally believable they would cause abrasions on little ones). Now the manufacturer is on the witness stand and explains that they were aware that their product didn't meet the standards for preventing slip and fall accidents, but when they met these standards about 10% of the homeowners who purchased their product complained that their socks and their kids tights were getting ruined by the flooring and it was too rough for babies to crawl on and not scrape their skin. She basically said we wouldn't have a case unless we were testing from the same lot number as the rest of our order. Oh lordy I feel like we'll be riding piggy back on the poor installers when we go through this again (and hopefully the final time). Click here to access all instructions and submission page. And to those who say just wear slippers, obviously you arent on the floor all day with kids. I will add that the Provenza LVP line sample made a hole in some fabric after about 20 passes. Machado, H.M.C. By providing alternative products made from renewable resources, we can make a difference in the future of our planet. @NJ Pegi The pics on their website are more representative than our floor. It is absolutely not true that the floor has to be matte to the point of being destructive in order to be safely non-slip. We were worried the finish would change to be more matte (destructive and hard to clean) like everything else in that time. There was a 3-day struggle with them because they kept saying if we install the floors we accept them as is, but our argument was we had to install what was here because we were on subfloors at that point and we have a toddler (not clean and not safe!!). Its in a beach house. And if I want to change it out down the road.easy peasy, compared to sanding and staining. So to make it matte you need tiny breaks and pits in the finish that deflect or diffuse the reflection. We were hoping we could just avoid the acrylic since thats what Coretec uses but it doesnt seem to be the material thats the culprit, it seems to be the finish I guess but that doesnt really explain it totally either!? Not worried about socks but we are often barefoot so we will not test each sample for abrasiveness! One more thing that might be helpful: during install, I stuck around and made sure they were careful about pattern placement. After the installers had ripped up the Coretec planks on the bottom floor, they pointed out to us that there were so many pattern repeats in the Cali Bamboo flooring that they couldnt make it look good. Its just an absolutely ridiculous situation. The Editors decision is final. Interested in transforming your space with Cali Bamboo products?Lets get started by scheduling a consultation with one of our flooring specialists. After some back and forth we were eventually refunded the money by Shaw and, of course, wanted nothing more to do with them or any of their products. They refunded our money with the assurance they would have the pattern repeat issue fixed and new planks would be in stock in about 6 months. Manufacturers answered the requests to have LVP/LVT in our bathrooms. Our old Cali (installed 2019) is textured and not slippery (its in the kitchen and gets plenty plenty wet often with my little helper) and isnt destructive in the least. The locking system was a little different and harder to install, so it took longer. In the design of piles partially embedded in rock, the main factors that influence the strength and deformability of the rock and the transmi Ennio Marques Palmeira, Jos Melchior Filho, Ewerton Clayton Alves Fonseca. Im still here only to try to find floors for us and to try to help others be aware of the problem so that they can at least test it out for themselves and hopefully avoid the worst ones. We have gotten several samples already from Armstrong Empower and Pergo extreme and they seem to have the same ultra matte finish as the Coretec Berlin Pine. I have Coretec, and I wear slippers in the house, so I havent had any issues. The flooring manufacturers we dealt with for our two horrible experiences were abysmal, but at least the flooring company we worked with that partnered with the manufactures fought for us until we (and they) were refunded everything including installation costs. It feels great underfoot (and we are on slab). Their surface is not as abrasive as what you & others experienced but for sure it roughed my feet. And as for the woman who has older products, yes, I think the older products are ok. Sounds like you got lucky before it switched! @Shannon H Yes the North Shore Oak was the best weve found as far as not being destructive but I dont have recent samples of it. Sadly, the vast majority of product claims I've seen stem from installation errors instead of product defects. Thanks Sandra! No manufacturer is going to prioritize damage to your socks over someone else's loss of life. Thank you for sharing, Any one have experience with Republic pure spc max - we like the jet mist color. I read that you ordered a box, was the box consistent with the sample? The box for the one possible option we were waiting on got lost and theyve since sold out until June so were now waiting 6 more months! I believer it was the floor. Papers deemed suitable are then sent to a minimum of two independent expert reviewers to assess the scientific quality of the paper. I know this is not the answer you want to hear, but you need to accept reality. Enough of that will also break the joint between the boards. We hope this gives you a nice starting point for your research. Can our beautiful quartzite countertops be remedied? @Shannon H Bless you! Were thinking of coating the destructive Coretec Berlin Pine with a polyurethane finish to see if it will help us in the meantime while the flooring industry hopefully figures out their floors are so matte they are destructive. SO glad that you were able to avoid the destructive flooring and that you were able to find something you love!! It truly is a long (and ongoing) story. Although embankments on soft soils with prefabricated vertical drains (PVDs) under vacuum preloading have been widely studied, there is a lac Marlia Dantas da Silva, Roberto Quental Coutinho, Bernadete Ragoni Danziger. There is another piece to the story that were terrified of repeating. And weve only ever used approved cleaning tools and solutions. The aim of the journal is to publish original papers on all branches of Geotechnical Engineering. We don't often walk around in our bare feet (admittedly the rigid core is indeed rigid) so I can't talk about foot sweat marks. Weve seen how poorly wood performs (especially with our engineer boy). This is especially true with homeowners doing their own installation without doing proper research or without being properly informed of the installation process by the supplier of the flooring. And it tears up our mops and vacuum cleaner heads too. When we got Coretec Berlin Pine ( now 2.5 years ago), it was the ONLY one of theirs that has that ultra matte feel that ended up being destructive. I was all set on Coretec (found a sample we liked) but am not happy to hear about the abrasiveness. @surrendertoflow My wife and i just installed 1600+ sqft of Armstrong Rigid Core LVP Tropical Oak Natural in mid Nov 2021. Andrade. @teamlog23 Ugh! Just curious if you can share any real pictures or your thoughts on it. Work with your retainer retailer/rep to figure out how to plan all that out when the time comes. This is very interesting. The manufacturers were essentially put on notice. Anything Coretec suggests is worthless to fix this problem. This is her thread after all, and probably thousands of people on the internet will find and read it. I am working with a flooring expert and he showed me a large sample of it. Manuscripts submitted to Soils and Rocks cannot have already been published or submitted elsewhere. Do you happen to have any pics of your Seaboard Oak in an open space so we can see what it looks like with the reversals? Cleans up easily with warm water only, or any mild cleaner. I would have never considered that the matte finish would be destructive and it's just something we're going to have to live with if it is an issue. Just going to chime in again because I get the lawsuit thing, but what about other types of flooring currently being sold then? Look for a tech savvy kid to create a solution that will scrape the website for all of the e-mail addresses. I did the hole test and yikes! Each manuscript is subjected to a single-blind peer-review process. The journal has the rights for first publication. In 1980, the Brazilian Association for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering took over the editorial and publishing responsibilities of Solos e Rochas, increasing its reach. Fibre reinforcement is considered a good alternative for improving the geotechnical properties of soil. Yikes! Ill inquire more with our local retailer. The journals policy of screening for plagiarism includes the use of a plagiarism checker on all submitted manuscripts. Since neither of these issues seem to be able to be explained away by a difference in what the top layer is made of or whether or not there is pronounced texture/embossing we dont know how to avoid it and are understandably terrified of going through another round of flooring fail! Manufacturers have to do test ASTM D2047 - Standard Test Method for Static Coefficient of Friction so floors can be ADA compliant. Or wear slippers. The CB North Shore Oak finish does have a noticeably slicker feel in between the embossed ridges if you run your finger over it compared to the Berlin Pine, though it doesnt appear glossy or shiny. I will update once we know more. It was awful, a hole appeared in just a few passes. Light reflecting off the surface makes it shiny. Besides the pictures on the Shaw website all I found was one negative review (see below) until I came across your post on this site. My sister got tile in her bathrooms at that time because LVT couldn't be used in the bathrooms. I sure wish they had a better pattern repeat solution and their customer service was better so we could just go with them because at least we know their floors wont tear up our clothes and we can clean the floors just fine without the haze. Any advice/help anyone can share will be GREATLY appreciated!! Maybe you like the pursuit? She/He is doing a great service. Shaw offers luxury vinyl planks, luxury vinyl tile and sheet vinyl. Within a month it was clear that the bevel paint was coming off on many of the planks and many of those were also chipping at the corners where the paint had come off. The thing we cant figure out is all of these companies are using different materials for the protective top layer (Coretec uses UV acrylic, Armstrong Empower uses diamond dust with urethane, Pergo Extreme uses aluminum oxide) but if it even remotely has a matte finish like the Berlin Pine then it does the same thing (as evidenced by me getting down and testing the samples on my pant knees!) I really liked Cali too but don't have any samples right now. Its just a different color variation with the same pattern (we prefer the North Shore coloring, matched matches our home better). We were worried they might change the finish in that 6 months time that we were waiting (and were also hoping to see more reviews as it is a new product and, of course, it's hard for us to trust anything at this point!). Ive said this before. They have 4 patterns and 4 reversals now (but I dont know if they have changed the finish on it!) However, studies that investigate its Ktia Vanessa Bicalho, Janaina Silva Hastenreiter Kster, Lucas Broseghini Totola, Letcia Garcia Crevelin Cristello, Fernando Schnaid; Luiz Guilherme F.S. I use a mix of water and vinegar giving up the Swiffer and not interested in Armstrong's proprietary cleaner. What cleaning product do you use on these to avoid hazing? When we go upstairs we have to avoid touching the floors with our clothes to try to keep them from being ruined (pretty hard to do with a three year old). In July of 2019, we used a local flooring company to install almost 2000 sq ft of Coretec Berlin Pine. The vinyl manufacturers probably didnt know how abrasive their product was, but once it became an issue, they needed an out from this liability. There are binders, fillers, plasticizers and other components that are added to the coating to provide certain attributes whether for performance or to make it easier to manufacture or be more consistent. I do recommend getting a box from the same lot number as what would be available for you to order from so you can test that specific lot!
