But! I called the Rejuvenate hotline number and the woman started saying that I had caused the problem by not using the product properly. A slightly stronger ammonia based floor stripper can be used but you must be VERY cautious about how strong it is an how to use it safely (high ventilation, working in pairs, etc). Shame on us for believing them. You can test to see if they have 'wax' on them. If you used 2 coats of finish then you have a much more delicate system then if you had gone with the hardier version = 3 coats. Let us know how you fare. In the old days, prior to the 70s, women waxed floors regularly (yes, women). Oh. Sigh. The only thing that takes it off your floors is pure ammonia (which can ruin some floors). Lysol on the other hand I see that is more difficult to find. A heavy hand scraped finish like yours will need MUCH MORE wood to get a single refinish. The core of laminate flooring is MDF, and while that product has it uses, its awful for a flooring in particular because it absorbs moisture so easily. Don't do anything. Best of luck. That means the NEXT attempt at sanding/refinishing could (probably will) end up with adhesion failure. Might as well try it. I believe that was caused by your floor still being new enough to still be all or mostly covered by the original topcoat. I got just what I wanted and I just redid them this year. Plan to spend an entire day for a 20x10 room. There are 'poly pens' you can purchase at Home Depot.but they are most likely 'oil based' polyurethane in them (you might luck out and find one filled with water based poly). @SJ McCarthy got it. I know the floor has also had rejuvenate and bona used on it by my parents when they lived in the home. Wipe with another cloth. I clean it now with their no bucket cleaner. I really appreciate it. I TRIED to get the flooring company to put 2 coats but they so rushed (this was after KATRINA) no go. If the water beads on the floor long enough to be wiped up, you have finish on them. That's when you decide what to do with the wood. There is often a time limit. Lacquer thinners often also include thickeners or waxes. I will repost in about a week. This product went directly into the garbage. The old buffing machines (the one's grandma use to have to wax/strip her linoleum) are also worthy of purchase. I had to spend $424.00 for a home service janitorial company to strip the floors back to the main finish. The orange is from the old fashioned oil based finishes. It is solvent based and is supposed to 'penetrate' the old lacquer (an alcohol based product). My guess is you will continue to use 5-7 applications (every 6months = 3 YEARS worth of applications) and then STRIP them. They also sell filler and markers. I've sold Chinese cork so I know there are some very good manufacturers over therebut the majority would not be classified as "upstanding". @ Rossini - just leave the floors alone for now. I wanted to have it sanded down and refinished but in our country there's a strict lockdown so 'unnecessary' services are not allowed as yet our living room area's floors are really in bad condition, nails coming up out of the food and some parts splintering, and wide gaps between the planks. Now I can see scratches from the dog's claws, scratches from using the dining room chairs, scuff marks from shoes, water spots, even my dog's drool spots from laying in front of the window show up on my floor and there is no way to get rid of them. I'm sorry you were taken in by the "Shiny" gimmick. Once you are tired of your damaged hardwoods you will probably have to rip them out and find something else.
