This Black Bay Chrono created mixed feelings on us, at first. Aside from setting itself apart from every other coin-edge bezel sports watch, the finish is very well done with a tactile, easy to grip feel. Such feelings appeared with this BB Chrono. Will the rotating bezel be useful? Even with the addition of the chronograph function, this watch is a Black Bay. I tried it and it definetely feels like a Rolex (own a Sub and a Datejust). A black-dialed Chrono on bracelet was in stock and they were willing to hold it for me. The T401 in the Heritage Chrono features a standard 42-hour power reserve with unstated accuracy and no information regarding a service interval. I love these, especially in blue. In 2012, Tudor introduced theHeritage Black Bay, a vintage-inspired dive watch bearing all the traditional codes of the brand (and of the Rolex family). Actually, pretty well. In fact, I was set to travel there in early Autumn. The Heritage Chrono features a moderate case diameter of 41.8mm and a lug to lug height of 50.3mm. Last week, I showed you a discontinued delicacy with the Seiko Spring Drive Tuna. In short, the Heritage Chrono will fit wrists down to around 6 inches.. The Black Bay Chrono was maybe not the watch fully expected by a few hardcore collectors, however, the brand cant live only on this small circle of vintage enthusiasts. What about now if you have a chronograph? Additionally, Tudor have managed to align the chrono pushers with the crown - a rarity amongst most watches that use modular chronographs (Speedy Reduced, TAG Monaco, AP Offshore) where the two pushers often sit slightly higher than the crown. Inside, instead of a manual wind movement, Tudor chose the ETA 2892 with a Dubois-Depraz module. On a standard 3-hand dive watch, the rotating bezel is printed with a 60-minute scale, in order to time decompression steps or the length of your diving session. I think I will have some different commentary; however, many of your opinions are spot on. And now that the first model is out, Im looking forward to its variations (because there will be some). Now the combo looks even better. In a glance, you can spot all the elements that made the brand and its best-selling collection so successful. Why so many discussions? Faux rivet haters will be pleased to see the lack of the odd-looking screw heads on the flanks of the Heritage Chronos bracelet. No, weve been told it was an integrated architecture. While I dont own a timegrapher, for the fortnight that I had the watch in the house Toolwatch claimed it was running at around +10 seconds per day - not awful, but not good enough for a 3,390 watch. Tudor was partnering with Porsche Heritage racing at the time and the media shots were incredible. Even if I tend to dislike them on the Daytona, I have to agree that they make sense here, in this aquatic context. I assume the movement also has a nice Tudor rotor but I havent dared to check on this watch and I cant find any photos of the T401 online. A Tudor Monte Carlo Home Plate chronograph, ref. Like the screw-down chrono pushers and 3 oclock crown, the bezel also features a unique knurled finish. Review (& Opinion) The Tudor Heritage Black Bay Chronograph, https://monochrome-watches.com/tudor-heritage-black-bay-chrono-m79350-review-opinion-price/. Its build quality is incredibly reassuring and the ceramic bearings on the inside of the flip lock catch should mean that the action will continue to be nice and snappy even after prolonged use. With that being said, those with smaller wrists can still consider the Heritage Chrono as an optiondue to its vintage-style down turning of the end links middle link, meaning that the stated 50.3mm lug to lug measurement is all the wrist space that the watch needs in order to fit your wrist. How do these elements integrate into the design? The watch was available on a strap or a nice 22mm Oyster bracelet. However, more reliable sources tell me that integrated movements take less time to service and are therefore less expensive. Their bolt-on modules, which can provide complications such as moon phase, power reserve, chronographs or even perpetual calendars, are a great way for brands to expand their product lines while still using their own base calibres (look at the Offshore series). The Tudor Oysterdate Monte Carlo., While its true that Tudor lacks the historical Formula 1 ties of Rolex, Longines or TAG Heuer, the brand has been present in and around a variety of other motorsports since the early 1960s. The left register is responsible for counting elapsed minutes and the right is a continuous seconds hand. Create one here, it'll only take 20 seconds, You could never go wrong with beef and broccoli, and you could never go wrong with this watch. Yes, they are a bit chunky, yes the movement could be better, but just look at it! For sure, when the hour hand passes over the sub-counter, it will be more or less hidden but only for a while. Lets now move to the movement, because this was certainly one of the main topics when talking about theBlack Bay Chrono. What the world didnt realize is that this watch would lead to annual heritage-inspired releases. Amazingly, they were even willing to negotiate on this brand new release and I walked away with a pretty sweet deal. I take it if you need a chrono or just a watch to wear that day you go with a different chrono watch or watch period. In 2012, Tudor introduced theHeritage Black Bay, our in-depth article about this collaboration. It is sturdy, accurate and has that certain mix of modern and steampunk aesthetics with the leather strap which speaks, sings loudly to me. Which model is it? Its on my list of some day watches. No more minute track but a one-fourth of a secondscale on the periphery (made accordingly with the frequency of the movement) and, of course, two sub-counters at 3 and 9 one being a 45-minute chrono counter and the other the running seconds. The strap is great and looks fantastic on the watch, however, I found it to be too short for my 8-inch wrists. The faceted triangular hour and minute hands are also well-lumed and offer good nighttime legibility., A Week on the Wrist: the Tudor Heritage Chrono. I understand the original is now well into 5 figure territory so unobtainable for those of us with reasonable budgets, but if you fell in love with the original 4 digit reference, this one will not scratch that itch. Also I dont get the confusion with the non-diving bezel. That being said, well try here to be objective and to balance these arguments. And the explanation surprised us (in a good way) for two reasons: the transparency of Tudor concerning the provenance of the movement, and that provenance itself. However, we cant skip here one of the main talking points about this Tudor Black Bay Chrono: the fixed tachymeter scale. Yet, even if we all are watch-lovers, we also have the duty of being objective in our reviews. Why is HUBLOT the most hated luxury watch brand. The 48-click bi-directional aluminium bezel features 12-hour markings that enable the user to track a second timezone by simply lining the bezel up in accordance with the time difference. Yes, it feels slightly more modern than a normal Black Bay, maybe because the chronograph display feels more technical than the standard 3-hand style. Its not so much a vintage-inspired watch (no faux patina, no fake rivets, no pressed clasp), but more a product that takes key style ques from a previous design while utilising modern production methods and materials while also taking modern consumer demands into account.. Also, it is not the first watch to mix a diving style with additional features. More than ten years after its release, what are your thoughts about this Tudor? To put things in perspective, a new version of this watch retails for 4,210, so this represents nice savings. Ill try to paint the picture. While the Heritage Chronos list price of 3,390 is by no means bad value, the newly released Panda Black Bay Chronos cost only 510 more at retail. A fully new movement? We had to wait until the following day. The fit and finish of the end links is excellent, the bezel action is addictive, the threading on all three crowns is buttery, the etching on the clasp is deep and luxurious and the dial is really attractive. I can remember being at the presentation of this watch, the day before the opening of Baselworld 2017. In fact, before the B01 was developed, Breitling used a modular set-up in a large number of their automatic chronographs. However, its always the same at Baselworld: we see the watches for 5 minutes maximum, we concentrate on doing photos and wedont have the time to really appreciate them for what they are. A few days before departure, I received an email with some very good news. Like I said above, the version that we will look at today has been produced continuously since that time without any changes. 7033 next to the modernHeritageChrono 0006. If youre in the market for a racing chronograph and versatility isnt a big priority, I cant think of a better watch for less than the RRP of 3,390., Additionally, all three watches in the Heritage Chrono line seem to hold their value surprisingly well for a vintage-inspired watch. Prior to 2015, Tudor was only using out-sourced movements, slightly modified (minor updates), all coming from a single supplier: ETA. These colorful watches were very different from a Daytona, but collectors view them similarly. Tudor watches were seriously ugly and pretty darn cheesy looking. In addition to that, the finishing is, as usual with Tudor, very pleasant (sharp lines between the polished and brushed surfaces) and greatly adjusted (no visible gaps, no badly aligned adjustments of the parts). Don't have an account yet? Additionally, the Heritage Chrono is only 1mm thicker than the small wrist favourite that is the Black Bay 58 at around 13mm thick. If you do buy the watch on its bracelet, and I recommend you do, you get a tasteful black, grey and orange fabric strap in the box. Since then, weve seen virtually every other mainstream brand produce watches that are either heavily inspired by vintage watch aesthetics, or straight-up re-interpretations from the back-catalogues., Today were looking at a watch that should tick many of the same boxes as the aforementioned Black Bay range that hasnt yet achieved the same cult fan following, despite having had a longer production run., The Heritage Chrono was one of Tudors first releases after their UK re-launch in 2009. Another key distinction, you can walk into an AD and buy the Heratige Chrono tomorrow. What are the odds of a Black Bay 58 Chrono? However, because of the addition of the chronograph, Tudor had to adapt the display. And in all objectivity, its the same with most of the diving chronographs (Omega PO 600m, IWC Aquatimer, UN Diver) and it has never been that much of an issue for them. Its weighty, yes (around 165 grams), but due to how solid the bracelet is, its not top-heavy like youve might expected. So, what to think of this watch? The integration of the mandatorychronograph elements is subtle and the modern chronograph movement (more on that later) allows for well-proportioned sub-counters. In 2010, though, all that changed because of the Tudor Heritage Chrono. More details on tudorwatch.com. Not to mention the movement and its technical features, which are almost unique in this price range. Hands-On With The Retter 22 Is This The Ultimate Integrated-Bracelet Value Proposition?
